Most pages that promise you “Copenhagen Christmas market dates 2026” are last year’s article with the year swapped. This one separates what has actually been published by the people running each market from what is a pattern, a guess, or wrong.

Confirmed for 2026
Julemarked Nytorv — 6 November to 21 December 2026
The stall market on the twin squares of Gammeltorv and Nytorv, halfway along Strøget, has published 6 November – 21 December 2026 on its own website. That makes it the earliest opener of the season, a full week before the ticketed garden, and the only stall market in the city with firm 2026 dates.
One thing to note if you are following an older guide: this market moved here from Thorvaldsens Plads, so directions written before 2025 send you to the wrong square. Entry is free.
Tivoli Gardens Christmas season — opens 13 November 2026
The venue’s own site gives 13 November as the Christmas opening, and it appears on two separate pages there, which is about as solid as this gets. The published range runs to 3 January, though the seasons page prints no year against it — so 2027 is a reasonable inference rather than a stated fact.
The pattern from previous years supports it: the 2025/26 season ran 14 November 2025 to 4 January 2026, which is the same shape — open the second Friday of November, close the first Sunday of January. Entry is ticketed.
Halloween season — 2 October to 1 November 2026
Not a Christmas market, but relevant if your dates are flexible: the same venue’s Halloween season is confirmed for 2 October – 1 November 2026, with the year explicitly printed. J-Day — Friday 6 November 2026
Not a market either, but the unofficial start of the Danish Christmas season. J-Day always falls on the first Friday of November at 20:59, when Tuborg’s Christmas brew is released and free beer is handed out in bars across the country. The rule is fixed, so 2026’s date is arithmetic rather than an announcement.
Cancelled for 2026
Højbro Plads — not running
The Højbro Plads Christmas market is cancelled for 2026. Its organisers say so on their own website in plain terms, with no reason given and no alternative dates offered.
This is the single most important line on this page, because Højbro Plads was the most traditional of Copenhagen’s markets — Tyrolean-style log cabins, Glühwein and Currywurst alongside the Danish food — and because most articles currently online that carry a 2026 date still list it as open. For the record, the 2025 edition ran 4 November to 21 December 2025 at Højbro Plads 9, by the Gammel Strand metro station.
If it was on your route, the closest substitutes are the Gammeltorv/Nytorv stalls for the shopping and Christiania’s indoor market for the craft.
Announced but undated
Copenhagen Winter Wonderland, Kongens Nytorv — “November 2026”
The organisers’ site confirms the event is returning with the line “See you again in November 2026” and nothing more specific. Bear in mind what it is now: a large circular ice rink laid around the equestrian statue of Christian V, with a small attached gastro-market — not the traditional stall market that used to occupy the square. The 2025/26 edition ran 14 November 2025 to 4 January 2026. Entry to the square is free; skating is free with your own skates and paid if you rent.

Nyhavn deserves a specific warning. It has no official website and no publicly named organiser that we could find, and the 2025 date ranges we collected from travel sites spanned everything from late October to the end of December — four incompatible versions. What this means for planning
If you want everything open at once, aim for the last two weeks of November or the first two of December. By mid-November the confirmed openers are running and the undated street markets have historically started; by 21 December the stall markets begin closing, and after Christmas only the ticketed garden is reliably still going.
If you are travelling between Christmas and New Year, expect the garden to be open and most street markets gone. The garden has also typically closed on 24 December itself — widely reported, though not something we could confirm on the venue’s own site, so check the daily calendar before committing to a Christmas Eve visit.
